FAQs

How do I know if my child needs therapy?

Many children benefit from therapy when they are feeling overwhelmed, worried, frustrated, or struggling to cope with emotions or changes in their life. Common reasons parents seek support include anxiety, ADHD traits, emotional outbursts, low confidence, friendship difficulties, school avoidance, or challenges adjusting to new situations. Therapy provides a supportive space to help children better understand their feelings and develop helpful coping skills.

What age groups do you work with?

I work with children and young people aged approximately 5 –18 years old. Sessions are adapted to suit your child’s developmental stage, helping them feel comfortable and engaged. For younger children I often recommend parent sessions, as parents you are the expert in your child and best placed to help them with new coping strategies.

Do parents attend sessions?

Parents play an important role in supporting progress. Depending on your child’s age and needs, sessions may include time with both parent and child, or separate parent sessions to discuss strategies and progress. Parent support sessions are also available individually.

What happens in the initial assessment?

The initial assessment is a relaxed and supportive session where we explore your child’s strengths, challenges and needs. This session helps us understand what may be contributing to any difficulties and allows us to create a clear therapy plan with goals and recommendations for support.

What approach do you use?

I use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), alongside practical strategies to support emotional regulation, confidence and coping skills. Sessions are adapted to be engaging and appropriate for children and young people.

Do you offer support for ADHD?

Yes, I support children who experience ADHD traits such as difficulty with attention, emotional regulation, impulsivity, frustration, or low confidence. Therapy focuses on building understanding, developing helpful strategies and supporting both child and parent.

Will my child feel comfortable talking?

Children are never pressured to talk before they feel ready. Sessions may include activities, gentle conversation or creative approaches to help children express themselves in a way that feels natural and safe. They may need some resources ready such as pen, paper, colouring pencils etc. However, I also use on screen interactions.

Can I book parent sessions only?

Yes, parent sessions are available to provide guidance, strategies and support in responding to emotional or behavioural challenges at home.

Do you accept insurance?

BABCP accreditation is currently in progress, therefore insurance-funded sessions are not available at present. This is expected to change in the near future.

Do you work with anxiety?

Yes, anxiety is one of the most common reasons families seek support. Therapy can help children manage worries, fears, school anxiety, separation anxiety, social anxiety and OCD using gentle, evidence-based strategies.

Are sessions online or in person?

Sessions are currently offered online, allowing flexible access to support from home. Online therapy can be very effective for children and parents when delivered in an engaging and supportive way. I have experience working with children via video call and have developed skills in making the sessions fun and informative.

How long does therapy take?

The number of sessions varies depending on your child’s needs and goals. Some families benefit from short-term support, while others prefer ongoing sessions to build confidence and emotional skills over time.
